Simran is a Classics student, yoga teacher and current Barbican Young Poet. They were recently commissioned by ‘Bedtime Stories for the End of the World’ to write a queer retelling of part of the Ramayana, and have directed a couple of sold out women-of-colour and queer-people-of-colour centring student plays. Their work centres on reclaiming and queering their heritage, celebrating life despite trauma, and exploring the way humour, storytelling, music, lyricism, and most of all joyful spiritual experiences, can heal that trauma and rehumanise us, especially people of colour. They are currently working on translations of ghazals from Iqbal and Ghalib, as well as some ghazals of their own in English and an expanded queer Ramayana!
